Hi all, first post here. I've been lurking for a couple years and used some great advice to plan ski trips. Mine and another family did a joint ski trip to Sunlight/Snowmass last year and had a blast, so we're doing another one this year. Due to different school schedules, we have to go over Christmas break and we've booked flights for Monday December 29th and will be skiing Tuesday the 28th through Thursday the 1st. Will the crowds at Winter Park be huge compared to Aspen last year? I'm just wondering if they might not be as big since WP is more of a day trippers place and we will be going midweek whereas Aspen is more of a destination and we are going when most will. Last year we didn't really find the crowds bad at all once we got over to the Big Burn area in Snowmass.
I've read Tony's website showing that Winter Park is a fair amount more reliable than Aspen for early season and I'm just wondering how the crowds will be. We have 3 never evers that didn't ski last year that will be doing ski school, so that needs to be taken into consideration. I've heard good things about both places for first timers. The 4 of us that skied last year are intermediate, and love going into the easy trees and are looking to improve our bump skiing some. So are the crowds at WP going to be pretty high where it might not be worth it to go there with it being more likely to have more cover to head into the trees some?
Edit: Obviously the never evers would do ski school at Buttermilk and not Aspen Mtn. itself if we went to Aspen.
