I don't do hot. If it never got above the 70s, I'd be a happy camper!
They used to keep a good yearly totals page on the website but all the recent info is out of the local paper usually from the GM of the resort. They quoted 150" when the season ended 4/12. The article above is saying additional 48" since 4/12.
Also here is the Snotel everyone looks at up there. It is same elevation as the base area but on the other side of the mountain.
Maybe the unwashed masses have just as much fun skiing a few runs and then stopping for drinks as the advanced skiers do. And I'm betting they don't have nearly as developed an idea of how snow texture relates to recent and current temps.
Also, a lot of people prefer warmth to cold.
I've requested that Snowbowl resume that yearly total page on the website to no avail. Estimate is 160 iches through end of April and another 3+ feet in May.
Weird indeed. Where do these people live? Mammoth has surveyed its Memorial Day weekends and found clientele to be at least 2/3 season passholders. It does make some sense that once A-Basin's steeps are shut down, the proportion of advanced/expert skiers will decline.
Love them Ramrod bumps!
What a fantastic day. Get up soon if you can. Conditions all over the mountain were really much better than I expected, fun everywhere. I got a $10 spring wax job first thing on my fat skis (the one's with the huge core shot) and they were gliding nicely.
I even got a nice compliment on my skiing from that guy who looks like a coach on my last run on Ramrod. It's going to be a long bumpless summer, but hopefully that will hold me over.
Hmmm, looks like I'm in the crosshairs of one of these cells. The next half hour could be interesting. Maybe it will go a touch south. On the other hand, I still need a new roof....
I took a lot of pics today. I was just awestruck by all the slides. Just spectacular. Here are a few of my favs.
