I'm not sure they have run into this precise situation recently. Usually Pali is closed by now, and last season Upper East Wall was closed on 20 May. I've never run a ski area, but I know quite a few folks who have worked at them, and very few have the luxury of being employed there year-round. They can't just wait around for the weather to do its thing before going to a summer job. There has to be some planning and projections involved.
Yeah, that seems to be the most likely situation in the current scenario. A big part of what started my whining is they are using staff to run the Zuma lift that I'd rather see running the Pali lift.
After a night of reflection on this important topic, I think I've come to terms with a possible/likely scenario. The constraint probably isn't the lift op staff, rather the patrollers that do the control work. Once they head off to their summer gigs A-basin has no choice but to become that blue and dark blue ski area and close everything down that is slide prone or in a slide path. If that's the case, I hope Al tells us so.
