From the above it sounds like breck opened a couple more blue/black runs today. The breck snow stake cam is showing about 14 more inches of fresh with a potential for a few more inches overnight. Will they be opening any more runs tomorrow? How much more snow does breck need before being able to open runs with natural snow? Their website claimed a 30 inch base as of this morning, even though it's absolutely dumped over the past week that would be a lot of base considering things were brown a week or two ago. I'm contemplating making the day trip up tomorrow from Denver.
Uh .. Crescendo is open - all natural snow. Callie's Alley - all natural snow. The lower part of High A is open - all natural snow. From memory - the runs open as of the end of today were Springmeyer, Springer, Crescendo, Callie's Alley, Spruce, and the parts of High A you can get to from Spruce. And it was absolutely puking snow after the lifts closed. It's still snowing just a bit.
I could buy a 30" base that includes manmade on those runs that blow snow. On the natural snow runs, it's exactly what you might expect - snow sharks lurking below the surface. A light touch is definitely recommended. There's a choke point coming out of all the newly opened runs that is definitely worse for the wear, but it's not a big deal if you are used to skiing natural snow conditions.
Please stay home; it's too crowded here already!
