It seems like the warm temps are about a month early this year? Hearing reports of glue appearing on the front range this time of year should be alarming? Joel is saying the warm in the west, cold in the east isn't disappearing anytime in March.
I was at Keystone yesterday. It was hot, and the snow hadn't really corned up yet. Not entirely pleasant snow, but nice to ski in a t-shirt.
I know it's already late-ish March, so this shouldn't surprise me that much, but the heat really snuck up on me this year - a big fat reminder that the season is almost over already. Felt like a quick winter.
Yesterday's Vail Daily "On the Hill" video report was about the dirt patches on the top of Pepi's Face (just in front of Gondola One), even though it was still open.
Pretty standard spring skiing, bluebird day today at Copper: crusty corduroy early, scraped off by 10-11, patches of ice, then softening and turning to soft by early afternoon. No rocks or dirt spots, very good base still. Just lots of crust til it melted. All in all, really fun. Hooray for a good ski edge.
I had an interesting day at Keystone today, 3/16/15. Took a scenic snowcat tour in the morning and then skied very fun spring snow conditions from about 2-430pm.
This is a trail/glade in the Outback called Timberwolf that I had all to myself around 245pm. The whole mtn got soft and fun today.
Erin go braugh tomorrow.
I never saw any lightning or rain at Copper on Thu or Fri. Plenty of grapple though. Periods of snow switching to grapple back to snow depending on where you were on the mountain. Sat and Sun were warm and warmer. Beautiful days. Copious amounts of sun screen were required both days. Some refreeze especially on Sun. Some soft spots on Sun afternoon. Pretty big crowd on Sat.
The forecast this week seems a little all over the place. I guess it depends on who you believe. I will go with the local Denver NBC affiliate. Kathy is saying 2-5" possible over the next few days. Others are predicting rain. I think the long term has next weekend being a repeat of this past weekend.
I was with you until the last pic...what a letdown
