As I said last year, the difference between men and boys is the price of their toys. No truer statement can be said about the Barrett Jackson auctions. In only it's second year, Barrett Jackson has become the must see event of Reno's "Hot August Nights" which is held the first week of every August here in Reno. Last year we were not sure what to expect attending the auction, how long it would be, what access we would have and what the attendance would be like. This year we came in knowing the pre show Gala would be a blast, but replacing the rack of lang with roast leg of lamb was a bit is a disappointment and that last year "Cocktail Attire" was suggested, it was more casual this year..yeah, we were over dressed.
Barrett Jackson starts the first day with a memorabilia auction with items ranging from barbershop signs and huge stuffed moose heads to vintage gas pumps and classic Buddy L toys.
In a short two years, I have seen a pattern, the first 10-20 cars that go though the block in Day 1 are steals because the bidder attendance, for the most part, have not arrived yet. As examples, the following cars went through at values well below market price....
First car across... 1983 Chevrolet Jimmy $5700.00
1972 Mercury Cougar...$3500.00..a steal for the amount of work that went into this car
1962 Corvair $6,000.00
99 SL500....$10,000.00, you can pay this for a 99 Miata.
1963 Ford Falcon wagon $9,750.00
1985 Saxon Roadster (Austin Healy recreate) ...$9,800.00
We were unable to stay for all the cars on day 1 but they will be posted on Barrett Jackson's result page once the auction is done. As the auctions go on i will be updating this thread with more pictures and key results.
