Happy Christmas!

Thread Starter
OK, in 24 hours time I will be going off-line for a week. I'm going back to Belfast for Christmas, and will only have very limited internet access.

(quick apology for my non-PC statements: If you don’t celebrate Christmas, then please don’t be offended. I do believe in Christmas and what it’s really about, so please be inclusive enough to allow me to celebrate it)

So, just wanted to wish you all a happy and peaceful Christmas, and if you’re skiing, may you have the best conditions you could wish for.

May the piste rise up to meet you,
May the wind be always at your back,
May the sun shine down upon your face,
And the snow fall soft upon your tongue,

May the saddest day of your future be no worse
than the happiest day of your past
May your glass be ever full.
May the roof over your head be always strong.

And, until we meet again,
May God hold you in the hollow of his hand,
And may you be skiing in heaven half an hour before the devil knows you're dead

Have a great Christmas,

That was lovely, Fox.

I hope everyone gets at least one bluebird powder day this season where the sun glints off a treasure trove of feathery crystals and warms your back as you cut through a generous layer of sweet creamy snow down your #1 run.

A poem dedicated to all my fellow patrollers

Twas the Day After Christmas

Twas the day after Christmas, and out on the slopes
Not a lift space was empty, not even the ropes,
The skiers were racing on trails without care,
for Jolly St. Nicholas had just been there.
The children were wearing new parkas and hats,
their other gifts forgotten, the dolls and the bats,
And mamma had new ski boots, and I had new skis
Happy to be skiing with no pain in my knees.
When down on the slopes there arose such a clatter,
I looked from the chair to see what was the matter.
I couldn’t see much as I looked down below,
Twas blinded by sparkle that came from the snow.
The sun on the slopes was bright as could be,
It shined in my eyes and I could hardly see.
When, what to my wondering eyes should appear,
but a patroller’s sled all filled with new gear
The patroller’s sled , down the trail it did move,
gliding smoothly over the snow , leaving a groove,
More rapid than eagles the patrollers they came,
to see what was in the sled that they may claim.
New scissors, new backboards, new collars and splints!
Oh radios! oh bandages! oh tape and new kits!
From the top of the hill you could hear him call!
“Come get some stuff! Get some stuff! get some stuff all!"
As fast as they could down the trail they did fly,
When they meet with an obstacle, they skied right by,
So up to the sled, the patrollers they flew,
to claim their new toys from St. Nicholas too.
And then, in a moment, I heard on the hill,
Them stuffing their packs with all they could fill.
As I drew in my head, and was turning around,
Out of the chair, I fell with a bound.
The patrollers they came with their new toys to try,
And splinted my leg as I tried not to cry.
They put me on a sled, I lay flat on my back,
They bundled me in blankets, my head on their pack.
The sled---how it floated--as we went down the slope!
I tried to hide my face, ’cause I felt like a dope.
Past skiers we glided on the cushion of snow,
to the ski patrol room, on the sled I did go.
Into the patrol room they took me to see,
If this time I had really ruined my knee.
He patroller inside, at my knee he did look,
he poked at it some more, then consulted a book.
He called for an ambulance to take me to see
Just how badly I’d torn up my knee
When I got to the hospital, I thanked them for the ride
but I really didn’t want them to take me inside.
The doctor spoke not a word, but went straight to his work,
he took the x-ray, I felt like a jerk,
It came back negative, but boy was I sore,
Couldn’t wait to get back and ski some more
They called me a ride, and sent me on my way
I returned to that mountain the very next day.
And they heard me exclaim as I schussed by on the right
“Happy Skiing to all and to all a good night!”

Merry Christmas to you WTFH, AC, Dchan, Bob Barnes and the many other experts who contribute so much here and to all the bears that make this site such a success. I must now steel myself for a Lutefisk repast(If you don't know what Lutefisk is, save yourself some grief and don't ask).

Happy Holidays to all of you. Mine have been oustanding so far, both online and offline.

The holidays have been a pleasure in this household. Tomorrow, my younger son gets to try out his new skis and my older son skis with us - skiing again for the first time in years, and his very first experience with modern shaped skis. Snow is here and more is on the way - altogether, a wonderful holiday here, and a wonderful holiday on-line. What a pleasure and adventure you and EpicSki have been!

To all, Happy Holidays and the very best wishes for a healthy, happy and snowy New Year!
