Into The Mind

Thread Starter

I've never seen a ski film before that wasn't at least ok (I've probably seen 25 total).  But I just Into The Mind from last year on Netflix and it's the most incoherent all over the place over edited thing I've seen and for me it sucked.

It's the "Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band (The movie) of the snow sports genreThumbs Down

Anyone else seen it?

I liked it.

I agree that a few sections are a little over edited, especially the snowboard halfpipe segment, or the eagles flying with the skiers on the beginning... I don't like too much post production and special effects on ski movies.

But the cinematography is mind blowing, and the editing of several segments is first class as well. I loved the Whistler segment, and also the DCP's snowboard / surf segment.

It's definitely a new format of ski movie, but VERY well done for what they proposed to do.

TGR is playing a different movie for free every week until mid September. This week is 'One for the Road', a great film IMO. You just need to register with them under the community tab, not sure if it's the same thing as the forum.

The last time I saw a TGR film it was at a huge event a few years ago, where everyone was talking and the sound system was horrible so all you hear was the base from the music and no one would stay seated.  Maybe I'm just getting too old  but that was not a fun one for me.

In my experience you go to the event to kind of bro out, Then you buy it on iTunes, and REALLY watch it.

In that tone, I'd say they should have a venue where the movie is playing on a big screen/sound system but instead of setting up seating to watch it, they should set up tables, chairs and bar stools more like a club atmosphere.  They can show the movie a couple times in a loop while people come and go.  They can still charge a ticket price like a cover charge and let people bro out.  I'd probably go to an event like that and have a great time but with different expectations.

Disliked.

In fact last year's entire crop soured me on the ski movie thing.

Sort of
There were bistro tables in the back with normal movie seating set up in the front. It definitely had a "celebrate hot dog the movie" atmosphere.

Into the Mind is a little artsy but its also got a message which is probably lost on most people. TGR is getting better but I always look forward to seeing the Matchstick movies.

I loved this movie. I acknowledge the over edits, but the music and filming are great and I love the story. Plus, you've got some folks that can ski a little in that.
