We are all gear heads here and always looking down the road for the next latest greatest piece of gear. You might not need it now....but what are you looking for your next car/truck/SUV to be? What date are you circling on the calendar for the new car to arrive home?

New vehicle this fall.

Wants

-AWD for snowy roads not off road

-V6

-able to tow at least 2500 lbs

-a real roof rack long enough for our Thule Ascent 1700 box without hitting hatch

-standard heated seats

-standard heated steering wheel

-standard block heater

-standard remote start to keep little dogs warm while skiing

-big enough for dog kennel plus gear plus friends

-able to get serviced in very small towns

-cheapish (< $32,000 Canadian) as we burn through vehicles at up to 40,000 km/year

Don't want and don't want to pay for

-third row seats

-nav system as I usually know where I'm going

-DVD player

-all those various and sundry techno gadgets (My Sync, Bluetooth, sat radio, etc.)

My first choice would be a Subaru Forester but they miss many of my requirements especially towing. I will probably be roundly criticized but after much searching the only vehicle that meets all my criteria is the Dodge Journey R/T and we will be ordering one in September. Not the best quality but excellent bang for the buck and will do the job we need it to do.

For me, just turning 100K on the TDI, I am a few years out but looking into my automotive crystal ball, the upcoming Golf Sportwagon AWD TDI would be at the top of my list. But not knowing what will be out in four years leaves me wondering. Will Subaru come back with another Legacy wagon? Will they being the Levorg over here? what 65-70CU ft. wagons will be available that get upper 30's to 40MPG, have a 500 plus range on one tank and be available in a stick?

As far as the Yukon XL? That's @Trekchick's baby, I will let her answer that one.

While I am a gear head, I'll tell you that both the auto and moto world are rapidly going in a direction that does not interest me at all. Even back in '10 when I made my last auto purchase the list of "possibles" was two, and one was 8k more than I would consider spending on a Northeastern winter car (because they can never be keepers). So hopefully I will not even have to consider anything till around 2022. Here's hoping!

Bought a new Outback last summer. My son might buy a new Forester this fall. I'm the kind of guy that keeps a car for 10 years. At age 60 there may be only 2 or 3 new/previously used car purchases left in my life :-o That's kind of a sobering thought, but I'm over with big car dreams and just want boring, easy to maintain competence in a vehicle. Sorry, hope this is not a thread killer post:-)

Since I'm keeping them sixteen years, there's only one left for me as I hope they'll take my keys away before I'm eighty.
