The point of this thread....

What do we learn from watching video?

@MT Skull That's Ott.....he's an icon of this community.

I think I'll bump one of his Sigi stories for TBT.  You should read them.

OK, send me a link so I don't miss it.

You know my whole last post was just a goof, right? I got the "ski with your feet together" from the same guy as "if you're not falling, you're not trying" (my dad), so take it for what it's worth (very little).

Dad was my first ski icon. We didn't have video in those days, but I did learn a lot from him, a lot of which I had to later un-learn in order to improve.

Yes I know it was a goof, but still......you should look up Otts Sigi stories, as well as other great input from his early days on here.  He's something like 82 years old now.  Good man.

You can start here.

^I liked it, thanks!

Reminded me of my trip to St Anton two years ago. We were at happy hour and the bar had Der weiße Rausch playing on their video system. If you haven't seen it, it's kind of a campy ski film from the 30's featuring Hannes Schneider. Lots of goofy antics like Ott describes, and made me want to learn more about Schneider and the history of the area.

Also rode a rodel down from the Rodel-Alm http://www.rodelalm.com/ after dinner. Prolly a little late to be chasing Sigi, but not bad for a then 50 year old yankee. I'm dying to bring my wife there, even though she doesn't ski.

I'm not half the story-teller that Ott is, and use a different medium, but here's a little mash-up I made after my return:

I spent several years working with an Academy and weekend race program.  Most days the kids were filmed.  Before training they watched films of world cup,  skied and got filmed.  Finished skiing and watched more world cup, saw their own tapes with critique. and maybe some more  WC tape.  Happened almost daily..  Watch the best, watch yourself and then watch the best again.  It's just one of the tools but a valuable one.  YM

However there is at least one video of technique you don't want to copy.... about the 1min mark. :eek.

But it does involve learning a lesson. :D

Good part no one was hurt.

Added in edit.

The skiers self review goes something like this  "So dude, I clicked in to the bindings, prior to ensuring that I was insuring that I was not going to slide.  The second mistake was I rushed it and did have my poles ready to stop the slide."

I have on authority ;) that this is what the skier actually said. "Man that is going to be good 'click' oh c#$p! OH C#$P! AAAAA! OH, OW, OW, OW, OW, ow........... "

Sorry got to have some fun with video lessons.
