Magnificent, no doubt about it but I believe the W140 was the last Benz S-Class that was built to a standard and not a price point. But I came this > < close to buying one that was traded in when I was selling Volvos, a meticulously maintained 300SD (W126) in a coco brown.
Yes, the 140's were very much engineered and designed without much regard for cost. As such, they are impressive, but very heavy. My 126 weighs 3350lbs and I think a 140 weighs well over 4000.
That 300SD you did not get has skyrocketed in value lately. Most trading over 10K with several hundred thousand miles.
Back to the thread topic, I saw a 126 Mercedes with 14K miles on it go for 80 thousand on eBay the other day. It was a cull from a sheiks collection. An AMG widebody SEC.
