Reading Rob Gaffney's blog about the dismantling of C2 at Squaw got me thinking about some of the old chairlifts that have served us and how we wax nostalgic about them.
Some will say that the old chair lifts give you time to contemplate your next run, or have a nice chat with the person on the chair. Others may say.." good riddance, we want to get up there faster".
Arguments can go both ways, about the comforts and quickness of the modern high speed lifts, good or bad, filling the slopes with too many skiers too quickly, or making for shorter lift lines.
Whatever your thinking is about contemporary high speed lifts.......it is sort of sad to see some of the old faithful chairs go.

As a side note, Lutsen Resort in Minnesota is home of the original Gondola from Squaw which was replaced by the Funitel.
