What can brown do for you?

Looks like the guys went low today. Saw a lot of birdies in my first hour of watching the US Open at Pinehurst. It was weird seeing a shot hit from the sand and the announcer saying "that was the fairway". So brown is the new green? I'd be rooting for Phil except KBS had a contest for a new set of irons. So go Spieth!

Looked more like golf that the usual "long distance lawn darts with a ball on living AstroTurf" to me. But I'm old(school). I'll have to watch the replay. I was 2 over after 7 when the skies opened. "Rain Check please!!!"

The announcers were forecasting that being a future normal for US courses to save on water. Great golf to watch, fun seeing the pros playing out of the fiscue.

If you like that wait till you see Chambers Bay. It is just the same only totally different.

We had brown fairways last year, but that was because our old superintendent (emphasis on the old part) put down a wetting agent (course was too wet) and a growth agent at the same time. Our fairways responded to that with (I hope have translated grass speak correctly here): YOWZA! We have had so much rain here in the midatlantic this year that we had a water bubble form in one fairway. The underground water pressure was so high that it pushed the fairway sod a foot into the air in a 3 foot circle. The sod was tight enough not to burst or leak. Our course usually browns a bit in late summer though. It's nice getting that extra roll and greens rolling at 11.

Congrats to Kaymer!

I've only gotten through the first 2 days of recordings. So far I've not heard Berman go "Na na na na na na na" for Kevin Na, but I did hear him do "Ground control to David Toms".  Anyone get any more Bermanisms?
