Better than sweating all over your sweet road bike on a rear-wheel trainer anyway.
I used to have a set of rollers that I rode religiously for years, then I just gave up on riding indoors due to sheer boredom. Then I moved to Georgetown where there's almost always snow on the ground from Nov to April (or later on the divide), and shoulder season lasts about 5 min.
Now torn between dreaming about skiing powder, and carving the tarmac on Loveland pass with those new wheels...
Ha! It's the furthest thing from carbon. It's VERY heavy steel. Weighs way more than my other 5 bikes combined! It's like 140lbs, w/a 50lb flywheel.
You really need one where you live! It's sooooo much better than a trainer or rollers. It's rock solid; you don't sweat all over your bike; you don't chew through tires and/or have to swap them all the time, and it's always ready to go without dragging your bike in and out of the house.
I got it off CL a little over a year ago for $900. There were even better deals on CL right up until the weather got bad this year. Not much right now. This one has been sitting there forever at $800, but it's an older model where the Powertap is the proprietary wireless rather than ANT+ so it only connects with the Cycleops head unit:
I've been using Trainerroad for virtual training, and it's really sweet:
Let me know if you have any questions....
