"Ask A Ski Pro"

@fairwages' post in the AASP forum got me to wondering if the permission to respond is limited to instructors only. I was going to encourage him/her to include paid patrol in that project, so I just PM'd. But...

Just curious.

I am an instructor and just noticed that I can't respond to other threads in the "Ask A Ski Pro" section of the forum.  I guess that only approved EpicSki instructors can respond, so that wasn't the best place to post in that many Snow Pros in my target audience, such as yourself, can't reply.

I specifically asked about including Patrollers in an email I sent out to Instructors who I had email addresses for- while many didn't answer all the questions I asked, 100% of those that did favored including Patrollers.

I chose Ski Instructor for Facebook even though it does not specifically include Snowboard Instructors and Patrollers just because that term is used more by the public than Snow Pro.

FWIW, there are a few Mountains where the Patrols are unionized- in many respects, I think Patrollers have more leverage in that the mountain can't open without them.  OTOH, Instructors directly generate more revenue.

Thanks for your interest.

Yes, members can create a thread in AASP but only approved Instructors can reply.

Being that a lot of patrollers are "pro" maybe the forum name isn't totally accurate?

Liquidfeet had a good suggestion here that might also work for The Patrol Shack stuff..

But if it were my thread, I'd put it in Ski Instruction & Coaching.

I think more people visit there.

The lounge used to be a lot more private than it is today.  There were some tongue and cheek comments happening there that regular members and lurkers might not find so funny.  However, now that the door is wide open to anyone with fifty Thumbs Up I don't see much need to keep it buried there.  I do think Ski Instruction and Coaching might also need a title change and Add The Patrol Shack there as well.

The advantage to the Passholder Lounge is that the area is out of "google search".  That keeps some stuff like this off the radar and people can speak their minds a little more freely.

Pretty sure everyone with an opinion most value here has the rep to post there.  Problem is that OP does not yet:dunno  They can't start the thread there until they earn the rep to be a passholder right?

For someone who's only been here a few days, he's gotten a lot of Rep Thumbs Up

He's got 80 and has the Passholder Badge.

okay Bob, I'm listening. That post is in the patrol shack and can be freely answered. Is this a gentle reminder that you would like to see these posts in the ask a pro forum and would like to have "reply" privs?

My thought would be to re-name the "ask a pro" forum - change it to something more instructor-oriented, because I respect the intent to have a forum like what the boot guys have but for instructors...although there is an instruction and coaching forum already but it isn't reply-restricted. I don't see a need for a reply-restricted patrol forum.

Well gee Bob. We started with the instruction "pro" forum and then added the boot pro forum after that. So the ski pro forum has been around a long time (with one short hiatus in between). I do see that the forum does not have a sticky note explaining it's for ski instruction questions and who the pros are. I'll at least get that on my to do list.ti
