One more week of that and the entire mountain will go into free fall melt. Last weekend should be fun. Sounds like it will pretty much be a Lake Reveal skimming party, which is the way it should be.

Looking forward to reports from today.

Looks like July 4th won't happen this year....sniff...sniff....

Snow harvesting

East Wall

I was passed by this guy on his way up to ski

Exo to Pali

Spacin' at the Basin with the Grateful Dead, Filmore East, April 1971 and a Sessions Black

Looking towards Breck from the Dam Road

I started at 9:00 as I didn't know they opened at 8:30 on these special Fridays. It was still nice. I stayed to groomed which was 2 - 3 inches of corn and only slow where it was brown down below.

You sure that's not Fillmore West?

The mp3s say east. I don't know who I got the album from to confirm.

Amazon thinks so, though.

Didn't make it up today. Just wasn't feeling good. Will try again tomorrow. Anyone take any pics of today? Any Lake Reveal?

My wife and I went up. We were skiing by 9:15 and finished at about 12:30. It was still firm in spots when we started and softened fully within a couple of runs so timing was good. A little sticky in spots around 10:30, and then pretty much just bumping up piles of corn slush where there was any pitch.

Reveal is definitely....revealing.

A lot of people were hitting the emerging troughs, some tentatively....who then promptly sank and found themselves glued to the slush bottom. Which is funny. Every time. And it's pretty deep already.

I didn't get any Fail pics, unfortunately.

And switch....a very near fail...

It will be a lot bigger by next weekend.

And from BML. Shocking how much snow is gone from when I was up in full winter on May 13th...

We also saw about 10 mountain goats on the East Wall, but they were too far away for a good iPhone shot. Still pretty cool to see them just hanging out in the sun right by summer skiing smile.gif. They are up near the ridge line on the East Wall hike if you look closely...more joined as the morning progressed and then they disappeared over the ridge.

Edit: Al posted a pic of these guys. So cool.

Nice shots you guys.

Its funny how much snow people will come out to ski in October for the WROD, compared to the turn out when spring conditions are like they are now.

Abasin has soul.

There were a good amount of people out today with short lift lines (2-3 mins) on Lenawee midday.

Good snow in the context of summer skiing. So I upgraded my 3 pack to a season pass biggrin.gif.

I think next weekend is likely to be the summer pinnacle in terms of the combination of actual skiing, Reveal, and sun. But I could be wrong if it cools at all, which isn't in the forecast...

I was out today too and was pleasantly surprised at the snow conditions until around noon. I'll be there at first chair again tomorrow, too.

I don't think they will make it until June 22.... The amount of runoff is crazy right now.

I think EpicSki should get a spiff for all the pass' sold to members this time of year.

We had several Bears buy pass' at Abasin for Mother's Day.  They can use it two years in a row which more than pays for itself.

I LOVE that place!

Wow snow is going fast. A few of those mountain goats were stuffed and mounted on the Moonlight Basin Lodge fireplace. There's 2 or three of them there.

Ramrod stayed open through today! Lots of terrain open (for June 8th) and the snow held up surprisingly well with the cooler temps. I skied on & off all day and had a blast. Even saw Al and thanked him for keeping the bumps alive for one more weekend. :)

Also got to hang out with this little dude, future ripper for sure ;) https://twitter.com/kurtbook/status/475665480640761858

I thought the thunder was going to cause another lift shut down so hung out in BML to have lunch. Came out and things cleared up for awhile, but snow came back again. Lake Reveal was interesting and sometimes scary--a few snowboarders got flipped over when they didn't make it and were wedged upside down. That water is dang cold and very salty tasting--found out helping get someone out.

Pictures & videos of Lake Reveal later this week.

For now, a farewell to Ramrod. Caught one more chair right before 2:30 and said goodbye to her and gave her last rites.

Those thin troughs in Reveal are a little scary for snowboarders right now - heard the same thing happened yesterday.

I started a new thread for next weekend biggrin.gif

Thumbs Up

Thanks for all the pictures, so many people having a blast. There is something about watching last turns, the season winding down, the bumps running down the stream that was the beach that makes me wish i was still there. A Basin, The Legend.

First chair is nice but sometimes last chair is best.

We've got a new thread for this coming....presumably closing....weekend. A lot of which so far is me negotiating with myself on being there biggrin.gif

I'll put some more vid up from this Sat on that thread.

The Lenawee lift must be an absolute roaster near the top with the sun coming off the snow. Thankfully it was cold enough when we were there a month ago.
