Well, it's that time of year again in this side of the world!
Many ski resorts in the Andes got some good snowfall the last few days, and the forecast is looking very promising.
2 big storms are supposed to hit many areas this week. Places like Las Lenas, Valle Nevado, Portillo, Chillan, and Corralco are expecting up to 3 feet of snow with low freezing levels.
Nevados de Chillan forecast.
My bet is that many resorts will set their official opening day early next week.
Hopefully, after a few bellow average winters, the brewing El Nino will help the Andes.
The sad note is that I'm still recovering from a soccer accident (broke my foot ) but if all goes well, I plan on check Corralco - Chile for the first time.
Corralco a bit southern than Chillan, with similar snow and elevation, (locals say they get even more snow) and this year the are opening a new chair,
that takes you1600ft bellow to the top of the Lonquimay volcano, so now they will claim a total of 3000ft vertical drop.
From Corralco, there is the option to cross the border and drive to Caviahue - Argentina, another resort set in a Volcano with great snow record and backcountry possibilities.
Well, if anyone has some first hand information or stoke on the SA season, let us know!
