I spent 2 weeks driving around Ireland about 25 years ago. We had a rented Toyota Corolla that had a 5sp manual. It only took a short time for me to get used to it. I am pretty sure the pedal configuration and stick pattern was the same as the USA. I was a lot of fun. We only almost had an accident on a single lane road but I noticed a bustle in the hedgerow and was able to avoid any contact.
I love driving a stick, but the new auto boxes with 6-9 gears, sport settings and programming that adopts to your style of driving are pretty amazing.
Good Lord! I've never seen anyone refer to a "bustle in a hedge row".
Except Led Zepplin:
"If there's a bustle in your hedgerow, don't be alarmed now,
It's just a spring clean for the May queen."
