We all have been skiing for a few seasons or more...like having many skis over the years, what are some of the best ski cars that you have had? Why? Why no longer have them? What do you miss about them?
My list is a partial list of the cars that I have had but these are the ones that I took skiing...
- 10 Volkswagen Jetta SW TDI- Current. Faux Wheel Drive. Longest I have ever owned a car. 40MPG and usable space makes it a winner.
- 06 Subaru Leg SE SW- One of my favorite Subies, sold for 09 Forester, big mistake. Perfect size for me, got 26-28MPG w/ snows and a box on top
- 90 Subaru Legacy L+ AWD SW- Many of winters with this back and forth to Hunter & Killington, low 20‘s MPG but a small tank made up for it,and had to stop often for fill ups.
Others, in no particular order...
82 Subaru GL4 4WD SW-This was a tank, you didn’t drive it, you operated it.
83 Subaru GLA SW-0-60? Eventually
88 Subaru Justy GL 4WD 5sp- Blast of a little car. Played Japanese Chariot races in ski area parking lots.
96 Subaru Outback SW-First car I put a MRG sticker on. Got rid of it before the HG blew
09 Subaru Forester X Prem--Overrated, and most disappointing Subaru I owned. Had for 2 long boring years.
73 Volkswagen SuperBeetle- Worst heater ever. Only one of the heater ducts worked, right rear, strong enough to melt the basket of a ski pole. Tried heating the car with sterno once...once.
83 Volkswagen Rabbit Wolfsburg-first NEW car I owned, did well going to and from Camleback. Had a basic Barrecrafter SR25 rack
84 Volkswagen GTI-Would get stuck going down hill in the snow. Blast in the summer, hated it in the winter.
01 Audi A4 Avant 2.8Q 5 sp.- with 4 snows it was a mountain goat but worst clutch I ever drove.
02 Volvo xc70-Used on a trip to Maine, I think, very numb car..so blah, not sure.
90 Mazda Miata B
90 Mazda Miata A
92 Mazda Miata C
96 Mazda Miata M
96 Mazda Miata R
99 Mazda Miata 10AE-1AB- None of these ever went on a ski trip. All were summer cars while many of the above cars were used in the winter.
Thanks @Phlox for the thread idea.
