I didn't answer the poll, because I honestly don't remember how many years it was from when I started to when I hit the off-piste. Too long ago for sure. Back in the 60's when I was a kid skiing Snow King in Jackson, Wy. Most of the runs weren't groomed anyway, and there weren't that many skiers on them. I do remembering my following some of my insane friends down "Exhibition", right under the lift and being terrified, but then immediately being stoked after we did it successfully. I think we would have been in 5th/6th grade. This run is still there today, but it is far tamer then it was back then. It was narrower, hardly ever skied and certainly not groomed.
So as early as I can remember, I was skiing "off-piste" and in a sick sort of a way, enjoying it.
