This would be a terrific teaching tool as well as hell on earth.
That's a neat idea, but it doesn't appear like they have it ready for public consumption yet. The link is to a company that appears to provide an app / software - not any hardware, btw. I haven't seen this discussed on any of the RC or multi-rotor forums.
One thing I wonder is how are they going to program obstacle avoidance into this? I don't think these types of machines have the processing capacity for that - nor does the phone. Not to mention the bandwidth of the datalink being able to handle it. I think most of that video they show on that linked site was not shot with an autonomous quad, but rather with one piloted by a person.
Wonder what happens if you have spotty cell service? Will it do trees or variable wind? Loosing your drone over the back side of the mountain could be unfun.
Even more critical, will it carry my skis back to the car?
