I did not read all the posts but I do have something real to add.
This was at times a bad snow year out west so you may have had some icy conditions. I have skied both the east and the west many times and I can tell you there is way more icy days back east. I do not know where you get this idea westerners have a bias to skinny skis, on most skiers I mostly see fat skis on the people who go off trail, all mountain skis on a number of skiers and on some the beginner sort of skis, but I hardly ever see the old school skinny skis. Yesterday we got over 8” of fresh powder and in the wind favored spots it was much deeper so maybe you need to take a few more trips out west and pick a place that has got some fresh snow.
This is one of those times when to "get" what's going on you should have read the thread. At this point, it's like you walked up to a group at a cocktail party and totally misread the topic so they all just look at you dumbfounded.
