I am looking for some suggestions on my North American trip next season. I typically take one or two trips a year and am narrowing down the options and would like some feedback on the places listed below which are currently under consideration.
My wife and I prefer skiing groomed runs (but as steep as possible). We’ve skied almost all of the major places in Colorado (Crested Butte and Beaver Creek being the exceptions). We are considering these places for a ski trip in the first or second week of January 2015:
1) Deer Valley
Pros: Plenty of groomed terrain, relatively easy to get to
3) Banff (Lake Louise, Sunshine Village)
Pros: Never skied in Canada before, amazing scenery
Cons: How do you get there? Cold in January?
4) Sun Valley
Pros: Never been there before
Cons: Again, how do you get there?
Pros: Considered one of the best ski resorts on the planet
Cons: Seems to me like Canada’s version of Vail (big, pricey, crowded, questionable weather)
Pros: Probably our favorite place to ski as we love everything about it
Con: We have been there before, all of the places above would be new to us
Aspen/Snowmass would actually be the cheapest trip for us since we would drive there. All of the other destinations would involve plane fare. What do you think?
