Wow, I didn't realise I wasn't the only shadow lurking on the forum!
I've also been reading this forum regularly for about a year but I didn't sign up until about a week ago. I think my typing needs to improve somewhat if I am gonna keep up with you guys.
Ok, here's the blurb...
I have just ended a long (5 years)and illustrious career as a student!!! I am English (oh and female) but spent most of my teens growing up in Germany.....and there blossomed my love of skiing. I got hooked the first time I tried when I was 15 and I haven't looked back since.
I have skied all over Europe and one year I was lucky enough to venture to the good old USA. Went to Squaw, Heavenly, Alpine Meadows, June mountain and Mammoth, where i fell into and subsequently fell in love with powder bowls.
Now I am stuck in snow void London, in an office and no Fox I REFUSE to go to the snowdome...
I used to take it for granted when I could pop off for the day to go skiing. Ok it was only the Black Forest. But hey that's better than nothing.
As with many of the other new comers I am always impressed by the level of knowledge and enthusiasm on this forum. I have learned an awful lot, not just about techniques but about places to ski etc. etc.
I think one of the reasons I waited so long before signing up was, not that the level of discussion about snow, skiing techniques was too complicated but that I simply didn't and still don't, possess the English vocab for it.
I probably know quite a few terms in German but have never had to use the English ones.
Besides Austrians still tend to favour the 'Watch me then follow' approach, rather than the more technical explanations.
And you don't talk about being 'back in the seat', you just shout 'bend ze knees'
(ok so I exaggerated that point but you know what I mean.)
I am grasping the technical terms now though, slowly. Usually I just try and visualise what you are explaining and then try it out. People in the office must think I have a weird twitch or something!!
And BTW, this is the BEST forum on the web!!
This is me for now...
Thanks LM for this post.
