2011 Volkl GSR FIS Base Structure

Thread Starter

Just picked up a new pair of 2011 Volkl GSR's. Being that this is my first pair of Volkls, I have heard that these come with unstructured bases from factory. Is this true? The bases appear to have some sort of fine broken linear.

Nope, all except race skis directly from Volkl's factory race room will come with a factory tune.

They'll have structure, but they may not have beveled edges.

^^ Good point. Factory tune is by no means "un-wrap and ski" all edges should be checked and hand filed along with any desired detune. Hydrate the bases with some good wax and your all good.

It seems to vary.  My 2014 188/30 speedwall came with a very good ~.8/3 out of the wrapper which surprised me!

New (in wrapper) Volkl W/C skis will come with a label advising the customer will need to have the bases and edges "finished".
