So I'm now the happy (I think) owner of Soul Rider skis, 177 in length, so they're taller than I am. They didn't have the 169 length, and they felt fine skiing. My only two concerns about the length are whether or not it will fit in my car, and if it will make them harder to squeeze in between trees. They have Marker bindings on them, which are very difficult to get into. I'm used to just having to step on the bindings, but these I have to actually push down on. Makes me concerned about whether or not the skis would pop off when I fall. The guy of the demo shop didn't seem to be concerned, what are your opinions?
It did take some getting used to skiing them. My first few turns were a lot more responsive than what I'm used to, and it almost felt as if the skis kept turning after I had stopped steering. I didn't like them too much at first, but once the snow softened up a lot, there was a big difference between them and my Rev 80. In those I was getting thrown around a lot hitting bumps, and the Soul Rider smoothed out the right a lot. With my Rev 80, the challenge wasn't worth the skiing, but the Soul Rider made it one of the best days I've had this season! Spring skiing is amazing with the right tool!
I paid $450 for the skis and binding, plus $50 for the demo fee (which they did deduct from the total ski price). They did not have any brand-new skis, so this is the demo model and bindings that I got. They're in good shape, except for some rather big chunks missing from the top of the ski. The guys said they would fix some of it with epoxy. Good price considering the condition?
Besides the Soul Rider, I also demoed Volkl Bridge and the Hell and Back. I didn't feel a big difference with the Hell and Back, except maybe a slightly rougher ride. Someone in this thread earlier said these felt like planks, but I'm not sure what that means, or didn't feel it. The Bridge we're fairly similar too, but these have no camber. I think I know what you guys mean now by skis having "pop", having felt a ski with little or none.
Long post... so things are looking for feedback on are the length, bindings, price, and condition.
