Ok, the season has come near its end and you boot guys have had yet another busy year I hope. Did any of you guys heat mold any Redster shells this season? Or any other brand shells such as Salomon? If you did, with what kind of success? Or did you stick to more traditional methods like punching and grinding?
Heat molding the outside shell of the Atomic Redster 2013-14 boots
heat molding a shell (the redster works well) is not the same as punching or grinding a shell, i use it successfully to "re-contour" the plastic, 120 degrees for most boot shells does a great job at just moving the plastic enough to increase comfort and speed up break in for the liner, there is change in the shape of the plastic but it is NOT a substitute for more extensive spot work on a boot if required
yes, we do it as a first step in a lot of cases... the plastic on the old redster may or may not have the additive that is in the new boot (i know they were playing with it then but not sure what went into production) i feel the new one molds as well if not better than the salomon
even if it does not have the additive it will still mold top a degree, i would tend not to try if the boot shell has been punched as you may lose some of the definition, but if the shell has not been worked on no reason why not heat it
