Speed gun on a specific place and day on the hill with the goal of going fast in mind? Sure. What I question and indeed doubt is the notion that people do it regularly just cruising all bro braw-y around the ski area. I just haven't seen it, and yes, I know what 70 looks and sounds like. smile.gif Anyhow.... If I ever do a speed gun run, I'm doing it on DH or SG skis, but that's just me.

I think at snwobird I probably hit 50-55 daily. I think at Stowe due to tightness 40 mph is probably the max with out trying, and as Tball point out I think even the fastest trees i ski are probably 20 mph at stowe. I need to take my GPS out next year, just never thought about it this year.

Tball the thing is I have not memorized any of the woods at A basin and since its soft woods I can not see, here in the east you might be able to go faster because despite being tighter than even the tight front side trees, you have a much better line of sight as its hard woods.

Yep, but maybe a little bit faster.   I maxed out around 12.5mph.

Front side trees:

Trees dropping down on the Zuma lift:

You were faster and pulling away from me in the tighter front side trees, but I was pretty close behind in the more open trees above Zuma.   Guess I need to head east to up my tight tree game :)

Here's an idea.  It would be cool to shoot gopro video from behind, but have the gps on a the skier in front.  You could then overlay the video with a speedometer showing how fast the skier you are looking at is going.  It would be similar to what @Cody Feuz did with this video using http://www.dashware.net/ but you'd see the skier rather than pov:

Edit: it would be sweet to see a video like that ^^^^ from the snowbird radar gun crew.

I personally would not  feel safe skiing at those speeds with most other people around me.

It's cute how you east cost folks call them "woods."   Back here we just ski the "trees."  :)

With bad sight lines in evergreens (aspens are better of course), even if you memorized the lines you can't see someone coming where many of the lines converge.  My buddy and I never saw each other until we nearly collided in this video:

Then there's them tree well thingies...

That Dash software is cool though, I like the little line at the top showing the elevation. Tells you how much a POV flattens out the look as that whole video looks flat, even the end where the line shows him headed down a pitch.

That's because you don't have many deciduous trees. Except the Aspens which were designed by Disney to be easy to ski. A mix gives you "woods". Plus all the scrubby garbage further makes it woods instead of trees.

Current predictions for next winter say we might have some problems with that scrub.p07.2c.gif
