What a day at Loveland. I want to name all the Bears there but I know I would forget a few. But we has a posse to end all posses ripping around.

We created our own lift lines. HippieFlippin got the attention of some gapers when he nailed about a 30-foot huck off the cornice near Chair 9. Helluva day for sure.

Sleep in tomorrow. That's the East Wall scouting report from the guy quarantined to A-basin today. It's gonna be firm, until it get soft, then it's gonna be good.
And, my little tip: there might be some of this 1st Notch goodness left:
Behind this door to the 2nd Notch:
The problem is that entrance was icy scary today, so it didn't get skied much.
It's hard to tell from that picture, but that's refrozen so hard you can't kick a boot hold to climb down. Scared the crap out of me. Just a couple tracks in there today that I saw. I have no idea how they got in there... but I'm a skier, not a mountaineer. I've seen folks straight line that, but not in those, um, firm conditions. Stepping down there in ski boots seemed like a certain sled ride. Point of all that... at some point that entrance is going to soften to open to some nice snow, before then bring some skills I won't ever have in this lifetime.
More East Wall recon pics:
You've inspired me to check it out on my phone. All the image processing modes are better than I expected.
if you are at DIA before me I would be glad to give you a ride if you need one.
Thanks, may do that. You should be able to get a few runs in if things don't get delayed. Last year I took a shuttle up there to Keystone. (they wouldn't go the few extra miles to Abasin even for money). I think I took a shuttle around 12:00/1 and had some quality ski time.
Yesterday I drove up to the Basin in search of some great skiing and friends. When I arrived just after 10:30 I had to park in the upper lot. I loaded Pali and took a nice run down Slalom Slope; softened moguls still showing the last three days 15".
I found a couple of race buddies making fast runs on Dercum's Gulch and joined them for a couple of quick ones. Then I ventured out onto the East Wall traverse.
Lookup up Willie's Wide.
The snow was powdery above the traverse. Not so much below. A friend that I thought I'd meet up with did ski Willie's and said it was nice. Everything from 1st Notch to North Pole looked kind of hard to get into/down the top part, judging from skiers that attempted it. Once down a ways, things seemed to improve.
I proceeded to Montezuma Bowl, traversing all the way over to Bierstadt for my first run there. Not so nice; warmed powder had set and was breakable, but not powdery at all. Where it had been skied a bit it was pretty firm.
Riding up the lift I decided to take another run but on the groomed to Log Roll.
East side of 'zuma bowl
West side of 'zuma bowl. The few skiers I saw on this side seemed to be fighting frozen ski tracks; very bouncy.
Everywhere the snow was deep and just waiting for a fabulous Mother's Day GTG.
In the parking lot resting and refreshing.
All in all, a very nice day of skiing. I left tired, satisfied and refreshed.
I was there till 11:30, @dookey67 skied until 3 or so.
We were up today and will be skiing tomorrow..and the next day..and the next day...
The Love closes tomorrow.
There is plenty of snow at both A Basin and Loveland. My report wasn't that great because the snow that had previously warmed up then cooled was set up and hard. Yesterday the sun just didn't get the job done all over the mountain. Fresh snow is always welcome, of course.
I'm a little surprised you didn't find us. We were everywhere.
Not us...will be up tomorrow. Sorry we missed you today. It was a great day, yes a little firm in the AM with @cgeib but the afternoon was pure corn pleasure hanging out in the Land of the Giants with @HippieFlippinNM, @dookey67, @Noodler and @Trekchick. A great day to air it out.
Sorry I missed your text. I never heard it and didn't think to check it until I took my boots off at the end of the day.
We'll be skiing most days all week.
