Cops shake down Taos ski area

Thread Starter

Heard about this from my family in NM. Cops showed up at Taos and started randomly searching/busting people.  I hope this doesn't become a regular thing or I might not be skiing much in NM anymore.

Glad I wasn't there.

Dogs, assault rifles and body armor come to skiing.

Wake up, America!

Recent update.

The Forest Service investigating itself, yah, that's real credible.

I think they were looking for skiers from Colorado...

I skied Taos all last week and have to admit that you could not walk up the parking lot road without tripping over someone cooking up meth in their trunk. As for me, I promised myself that after such an experience, I will never go back there until next year.

I have no problem with making sure that the lot isn't a giant safety meeting.  If I traveled with illegal substances I'd avoid that place, but since I don't I have no reason to avoid Taos.... unless I get that dreaded cracked windshield.  That is the hilarious and most outrageous part of the article.  You can't drive more than 1,000 miles in New Mexico without a damn rock cracking your windshield.  That place is the mecca of flying gravel.

Gaper day just keeps getting better and better..

Merged the threads.

It's too bad that the LEO's feel they have use these tactics.

60 minutes did a piece on Aspen's sheriff 30 years ago titled "Walking Small". His philosophy was to serve and protect. It's still that way today.

I ski Taos alot and have never seen anything remotely similar to someone cooking meth in the parking lot.

Do you have any evidence to support your claim?  Links?  If so, PLEASE let the Ski Area know of your concerns.

People cooking meth in their trunk a week or two after the sweep...unlikely.  It takes awhile for the stuff to dry, not a simple cook and snort.

Perhaps he meant smoking crack instead of cooking meth?  More likely saw someone using a glass pipe and assumed it was speed?

When I was there I'm pretty sure I saw guys running guns and selling immigrant children right there in the Armadillo lot.

If you read the whole post you'll see that (without the sarcasm smiley :rolleyes) he was being a bit sarcastic.    Noted by his comment that he will not go back there until next year.

Just saying.

Thanks Trekchick

I hope you are right.  :)

certain Gary Johnson would never allow this if he was still governor.

Well, could be. I mean a guy with a trunk meth lab is more likely to have a crack windshield too.
(winky emoticon intentionally omitted - again)

Well, I do not share your level of expertise on the subject but I did see this guy laying face first under the #4 lift. Looks very suspicious. I think I will notify the authorities. Good suggestion. But I think he may have already "self-arrested."

Nice catch, deliberate1.

Sometimes using a gaudy lure while trolling gets you an unexpectedly big one.
