I just saw this on Facebook put up by Ski Logik and it caught my eye.  I imagine many people here know the skier:

Taken a few lessons from him.  Awesome dude, great video!

Fun skiing with him when he guided the Snowbasin day at this years Utah gathering.

Nice job Jim! Great video.

Jim is one of my heroes.  He is a life life right.  Very cool Jim.

Only got a couple of runs in with the guy, would love to spend a day skiing on his 6.

Great video by Two Sherpas in Utah!  Was lucky enough to get a little tour with him in January with some folks starting Ski Diva Week West.  He's a great ambassador for skiing and Snowbasin.

Great video. Thanks for sharing the beauty and joy.

Very cool!

Very nice!

Is that Matlin Basin?

@4ster was a deserving winner of the Ski Logic skis. I enjoyed skiing with him at the 2010 gathering.  Good stuff in the video.  Looks like Jim got some early pre-opening turns.

Great video of a great guy.  Had one of the best days ever at Snowbasin skiing with Jim in 2009.  Doesn't seem that long ago.  Keep living the dream, Jim!

Loved it.  Since it's my home mountain too I thought I would point out that a number of those runs are a lot steeper than they might appear in the video.

Thanks for posting this @quant232.  This is actually the first time I have seen the finished product , although I have seen some of the raw footage.

& thanks for all the nice comments everyone :o.  Never met a Bear I didn't like!

That is not Malan's Basin, although we did hike above it to get to some of the footage in the video.

I actually just bought myself another pair of the Ski Logik Ullr's Chariot Twin Tips.  After trying a number of different skis this season as replacements to the originals, I found that I kept comparing them to the ones I had.  For my every day needs, I couldn't find a better ski!

No early ups for us, although we did do a lot of hiking to access the goods.

No John it doesn't seem that long ago, & I remember that day well :) .

I spent 2 full days with my friend Chris ( twosherpas.com ) shooting video.  originally my stuff was going to be part of a different project (which it still may be).  I believe this video is entered in a contest for Warren Miller Entertainment (WME).  At some point I think there will be voting involved, when I find out the details I will post a link & campaign for all your votes!!!

@SB77, I agree that many of those shots are steeper than they appear.  I was also a little disappointed with my skiing.  It was difficult to really let loose as even though the snow looks pretty good, it was mostly dust on coral reef!  For the most part I had to ski defensively & a bit conservative  There were a few spots where it was really nice though, & I think those are pretty obvious in the video.  The entry to Mt. Ogden Chute was downright scary but once I got through the choke it was 8" or 10" of great powder.  Same with Porky Cirque & Race Start Chutes.

Thanks everyone,

:)

Disappointed in your skiing?! If I ever ski 1/4 as well as you do...but I get it. That's what makes a good instructor is one who knows there really is no thing as perfection.

I showed my husband the video and told him about the upcoming summer mountain biking adventure. His jaw dropped. :eek LOL. As for living there and skiing up there next winter, well, we are stoked!

And of course we'll support any voting for the video. How very cool!

Yes, life is short so enjoy the HECK out of it!

This is why you will never be Josh Matta. I don't think the word modesty exists in his limited vocabulary. :nono:

Nice skiing anyway, and congrats on the feature.

Ski Logik ought to buy him a pair or two.   For some reason the TTs don't ski at speed like they are made with a 15M sidecut.  Perhaps it is the generous camber...the ski is certainly not lacking it.

Thanks Atomicman, for what I like to do the TT is a great versatile ski.  Today we were hiking to sun crusted powder & then high speed groomers the rest of the way down.  The skis never missed a beat or left me wanting for more.  A few weeks ago I foreran a full length Masters GS on them.  They probably weren't going to win the race, but they held, did the job & were more than fun to ski on!

Camber, lack of rocker & torsional stiffness is my guess.

They don't need to buy me anything, but if they want to give me another pair I wouldn't mind ;) .

Great video.  Quite the advertisement for Snowbasin (I mean that in a good way) - damn that looked fun.

Jim,

Great video and great guiding during the salt lake gathering
post #23 of 91

Jim - just curious, how many days of filming went into that?

Edit: nevermind, you said 2 days above.

Hey Jay,

Yes, I spent 2 full days with Chris on the filming & then a few minutes on the voice over.  I think except for the photos, the opening time lapse, the park scenes, the super deep clip & Chris being chased by his dog all of the footage was from our 2 days.  Day one was in & out light & day 2 was bluebird.  We did a lot of hiking both days & were more interested in the scenic backdrops than the actual skiing.  All in all it was a fun experience!  Even though there was a lot of waiting around (which can be very nerve wracking when you are standing at the top of a steep chute), Chris was very efficient carrying & setting up a ton of camera equipment between shots.  So much of the footage that you thought would be really good, is not & some of what was done as an afterthought ends up being usable.  It gives a new respect for the guys who make the commercial ski porn & other action type documentaries.

Thanks,

JF

Can't vote. Page not found. It apparently needs Facebook apps to be enabled and I've turned them off for privacy reasons.

Now worries, I figure you will need to like the Warren Miller Entertainment page before you will be able to vote.  I was having trouble linking to the page the other day, but I am pretty inept at most things internet ;).
