The resort where I grew up had a special attached side lodge that competitors, friends, and family hung out in during special events like USSA competitions. Plenty of pot luck goodies shared there. But, I was under the impression that the folks managing the event paid the resort a fee to rent that space during the event. Almost certain that was the case. Crock pots in the public brown bag areas of most resorts on a regular day with no race team or freestyle/park events happening seems to be less frequent but I haven't really paid attention.
This makes sense, and I'd also assume that groups like ski racers pay extra or are given a designated area based upon their size and investment. Accommodating a big group is one thing, but a family of four hogging a table and electrical outlet for the entire day doesn't make any sense to me. I assume they don't pack crock pots in their kids' brown bag school lunches, either.
