As for a good snow car I have noticed there is a size that works best all around, and the Subaru falls in that range, it is light enough to corner without sliding and heavy enough to drive through slush. In slush a big rig plows through slush well but if there is ice under the slush it wants to slide around corners as it's weight wants to keep it going in the direction it is traveling.
I have this one friend that has hit the snow bank more times than any one I know, he has done so with me riding with him a number of times. Bill did much better at staying on the road in his Subaru than his Bronco or any other car he had. The day he tried out the Bronco we took it skiing and he spun out and hit the snow bank, but did not hurt the rig. When we went home he bought the Bronco, he felt that it was a good rig to bounce off of snow banks with. I have so many funny stories about this guy!
