My boyfriend and I have this ongoing debate and I would love others in put.
I am an skier from out west who went to mammoth every weekend so that's what I know. Not a fan of thigh high powder and love it the most after its groomed but looooooooooooove oodles and oodles of freshies everywhere. I moved back to new england and was given a fast introduction to hard packed snow and ice.
I say its easier to ski on powder because who the heck needs edges lol, the snow grips your equipment and provided you know how to ski or board you are good to go.
I found it hard as hell to ski on ice and packed down granular snow and find that you need a stiff board and edges sharp ginsu knives to really dig in. I also find you really need to know what the heck you are doing because there's no snow to hide behind its just you, your equipment and an icy surface so there's no slacking and you have to be on your game.
My boyfriend, who has never skied on powder says ice is easier cause you can be lazy and skid in and our of your turns.
I disagree because you need edges that say HELLO. I think he's better than he thinks he is and uses those edges and just doesn't realize it.
I am curious as to what people think.
