Salomon X3 120 CS

I got Salomon X3 120 CS boots fitted recently and love them so far.  On the back spine there is one screw and one hole right above it.  The whole is not drilled all the way through.  Looks just like in this pic.

I was told that the boots can be stiffenned by drilling through that hole and putting another screw in there.  Is that correct?

If I remove the screw that's in there now, will that soften the boot?  If so, how significantly?  Thanks in advance.

10% but you might loose some rebound from the boot too.   Try and see.  Its replaceable
