need some positive vibes to make it to ESA

I haven't been very wise (cue: euphemism) in preparing my ESA attendance and left applying for a US visa until the last moment. I've got an interview booked tomorrow at the embassy but if they go by the rules I won't get the visa in time to make it to ESA.

I think I'm a low-risk visitor, I've been to the States before and of course I'll turn up in my best suit and be nice to whoever interviews me, but I still need a good dose of luck to make it. I'd be grateful for some positive thoughts from you guys when you go to bed tonight. Perhaps the consul will wake up in a good mood.

If I do get there after all, I will be all the more enthusiastic. And I will make sure to buy a drink to the top 10 well-wishers at least! Especially since it's my birthday today...

Happy Birthday, Cedric. I wish you lots of luck tomorrow!

I am hoping that since Tom Ridge lowered the Fear Level to Yellow, you will get the nod.

Fear not good Cedric, good vibes flow your way. I'm sure it's already been taken care of.

Hope to meet you at one of the pre or post Academy ski days with the other Bears.

How could I have forgotten so easily . . . . HAPPY BIRTHDAY

edited to add congratulatory B-Day wishes.

Man, sometimes the stupidity of this country is embarassing. Just tell that you are of arab descent, and want to attend flight school in Florida. I'm sure they will let you in with open arms! : :

Best of luck, and Happy Birthday!

Here is some good luck for you Cedric:

"La multi ani si mult noroc" - man that looks weird!

By the way, if you do make it to the ESA, there will be at least 2 Romanians there.

TomB - nice surprise, thank you!

My regards to my mystery conational. Hope to see him/her in less than two weeks' time.

Thanks everyone for the good wishes. I'll keep you posted on developments tomorrow.

I've got my fingers crossed for you.

Reading about your situation made me double check wether I need a visa to get into the USA. Have never need to before. They must thinks Kiwis don't pose a risk, cause the policy is

"The Visa Waiver Programme (VWP) permits New Zealand citizens to enter the USA for business and tourism purposes for up to 90 days without a visa."

They have made it tighter for those going for temporary work, I think they call it a J1 visa. Applicants now have to go to a US embassy office in Auckland to have a personal interview before getting the Visa. A bit of a pain for those who don't live in Auckland.

UPDATE: not certain yet but things are looking much better. Apparently, I'm due to get the visa in 5 to 7 working days. No matter how I count them, I should have the visa by Friday of next week. Now I just have to hope that the admin system or the Royal Mail don't mess this up.

Thanks to everyone who sent words of encouragement

Cedric. What the hell kind of person are you that women are crossing their legs weeks before you even arrive? You Dawg! Interesting we also share a birthday (the 12th). Capricorns rule. We've got Elvis Presley, Richard Nixon and Jesus Christ. Name one other sign that can beat that trifecta.

Um, let's see:
Elvis: bloated junkie,
"Dick Nixon before Nixon dicks you" I think was the phrase,
and your final suggestion? Well, most scholars agree that the date of Christ's birth was September, it just happens that it is celebrated in December to tie in with a pagan festival.

But happy birthday anyway.

...less of the "UGLY" please. I mean, I may not be an Adonis, but I've had a hard life.
