Marker Baron 2012 vs 2014 and atomic tracker

hi guys,

i have right now a MArker Baron 2012 on a völkl mantra. I want to buy now a new mantra and don`t know, if the new bindings are really better. Marker says that they put the screws wider, so that force goes better on the ski.

I only can beleave, that the force on the screws is less than from the old modell. But i only weight 70kg, so i don`t think that it makes any problem for the screws.

The question is, if i can get with the new wider binding more force on the ski, or is the difference so little, that you probably don`t notice it.

And what do you think about the atomic Tracker. Better? Same level?

thx

I've skied both the new and old barons, and don't notice a difference.  The baron has an adjustable toe so it is compatible with AT boots as well as alpine boots, a big plus in my opinion over the tracker - more comfortable for hiking and skinning.

TtHi,

Thx for the answer. For my understanding the 2014 model is only better in the commercial than the 2012, but maybe i'm wrong and there is a 15% better transfer from the force. Don't know. Probably hard to figure out.

I just want it to know, because i use the ski/binding for some snowkiting races and there i could need any improvment. Just don't want to buy it, if there is nothing better or just 3%. That would be wasting money biggrin.gif

I use the ski/binding 98% for skiing and only a few times for hiking.

This. Although Salomon/Atomic are revising the 2014/15 Guardian/Tracker to have a sliding AFD so it should better accomodate AT boots going forward.

The EPF Duke/Baron doesn't ski any different from the previous version. For OP I would go with whatever is cheaper if you only use it for skinning 2% of the time and do not use AT boots.

The AFD on the current Tracker/Guardian/ XM Touring  (Atomic/Salmon/Look) models is secured by 2 screws.  Will be interesting to see if the sliding AFD will retrofit to the 13/14 and earlier bindings.

I hope so as I have a pair of 12/13 Guardians and may end up with a pair of AT boots next year. Would be nice to be able to use the Guardians without going back to alpine boots. Somehow I doubt it will work that way, not sure there is room for the AFD to slide down enough with the current housing?
