Smugglers' Notch 3/8-3/13

Just got back from 6 days of skiing in Smugglers' Notch.  First day was Saturday, March 8th and last day was Thursday, March 13th.

3/8 and 3/9 were a bit crowded and the conditions were typical skied-out Eastern hardpack.  Things were sketchy in a lot of places, and the glades had a lot of exposed rock/roots, etc.  Still fun, but not ideal.

On 3/10, 3/11 and 3/12, were greeted each morning with 2-4" of fresh snow.  This made a BIG difference all over the mountain.  Much less crowded, although it was a Canadian grammar/high school break week, so ski school/camps were more populated than usual.  Plenty of good conditions to find all over Sterling and Madonna, especially off the main intermediate and connector trails.  Glades got better and better each day, and several of the less-traveled trails were in fantastic condition.  Demo'd the Brahmas on Tuesday, and it was just about the perfect ski match for the conditions.

It snowed throughout the day on 3/12, with some additional accumulation from the fresh there in the morning, but the heavier snow was later in the evening and overnight.  I never got official word on the final tally for the storm Wednesday through Thursday, but suffice it to say there was at least 18".  Got pretty cold and very windy, so the slow chairs on Madonna were not a pleasant ride ... they were only loading every 3rd chair early in the day, so lines were long and people were cold and impatient!  I stayed on Sterling for the morning and got to Madonna in the afternoon.  Got the last pair of 100+ width skis available from the demo center on Wednesday afternoon, so spent the day on the Blizzard Peacemaker.  The conditions were "once every 3 years or so" awesome, although the cold snow definitely had a bit of a "sticky" consistency that made for some abrupt decelerations at times!  A big quad workout, but well worth it!  Glades and trees were nothing short of fantastic, and there were a lot of hoots and hollers being heard all over the woods!  Lots of cold toes and faces, but you gotta earn it!

All in all, a fantastic week!   No still shots, but need to offload some POV footage from my Contour Roam.
