Ski bumming in Japan [from eastern Canada]

Hey this is my first post and I'm not sure if anyone's asked about this before, but my limited time searching didn't help me out. I'm wondering if anyone has ever lived in Japan for a season (a couple months at least), and if they had any advice for someone looking to do that. I've spent the last 2 seasons in the Kootenays (only skiing no working) and, as much as I love the terrain, the snow hasn't been there. I'm looking to do the same thing in Japan and it seems pretty doable, but I'm worried about housing. Are there affordable monthly rentals available short term? If anyone has their 2 cents they could put in it would be much appreciated.

Welcome to EpicSki!  Going to move your question to the International Zone.  Where did you start skiing?

@Jim. is an instructor in Japan.  Maybe he'll stop by.

Thanks, sorry I wasn't sure where to post it. I grew up skiing on the coast of BC. Mainly Whistler, but also Cypress and Grouse.

Amarcord, glad someone else is also having trouble figuring out the ski housing situation in Japan.  I'm also trying to spend next winter there (month or two of wwoofing my way north followed by a couple months in hoikkaido), so I'd love if anyone else is able to chime in about their experiences in Japan.

Sorry, was busy when this was posted. There's lots of options for renting, the most foreigner friendly town is Hirafu, but prices are rising there a bit. You could probably get a room share for 400 bucks a month, but depends on how nice the house is etc, I pay 600 excluding bills for my own room.

A good place to check out for more japan info is snowjapan.com, for rentals in Niseko check out kutchannel.net
