Help with choosing a first set of all mountain skis for the east coast!!! Please help!

Hello Everyone!

First off let me start by saying that the advice given on this website is truly top notch, a great community.

I recently made the transition from snowboarding to skiing so my knowledge of skis is non existent. However, I used to be an avid inline skater so skiing comes extremely natural to me. I'm about to move to the east coast in a few months and I could greatly use some advice for figuring out which set of skis to purchase.

Characteristic profile: 5'4" , 150 lbs, top heavy

I'm looking for an all mountain ski for the east coast. This is how I prioritize my ski day:

1. Groom

2. Park

3. Trees

4. Powder

I will be commuting from Alabama (yes it's going to be a long drive to neighboring states).

The lower the cost the better, but I would certainly like to get some great performance out of these skis as I will be around the east coast for 3-5 years.

It should be noted that I know nothing about measurements as well, so measurements such as height would be greatly appreciated =).

(After reading other blogs, it appears the Volkl Bridge and Salomon twenty twelve are getting alot of praise.)

Welcome and best of luck on your ski search.

I'd suggest that you get a ski roughly around 165, and while the volkl bridge may be a top notch ski, it might not be the best suited for what you are looking for given its full rocker. Also I would recommend that you consider something with a waist no wider than 90mm. Something along the lines of a Salomon Suspect (86mm waist, full camber) is probably your best bet for ripping groomers and hitting up the park while being reasonably low cost. I''l leave it to the experts to suggest a particular ski that suits your needs! Good luck.
