Hi all -
47 Yr. old hockey player/ ski hack who has just gotten back into the sport. I can make it down most trails, although it's not always pretty heh - not sure if that makes me an intermediate skier or what. I currently ski on Volant Super Karve 185's which I purchased approximately 5 minutes before they went out of business about 10 years ago. Apparently they were made for carving icy groomers and I can't say they are particularly good or bad at that because I don't really have any frame of reference and I generally try to avoid ice if I can lol.
The reason I've started skiing again is my boys - aged 8 - have started to ski and we are having a blast. They like to ski the trees and I'm wondering if I wouldn't have an easier time trying to keep up if I went with a different type of ski. I'm no expert by any means, but I suspect we'll be doing a lot more skiing in the years to come and I'm not opposed to giving myself every possible advantage heh.
I know it's a good idea to demo a bunch of ski's b4 buying, but it's a bit overwhelming and I'd like to tap the expertise here in coming up with a short-list of good candidates. Ideally, I'd like to spend less less than $500 so I probably would be looking at a model a year or two old and/or something used.
For example would these be something I should consider:
K2 AMP Rictor - 82? 90? And what length? 174? 177?
Kastle MX or BMX line?
In general, should I be looking for a rocker/camber/rocker type ski?
Where I ski: Almost all East Coast - Smuggs, Jay Peak, etc.
Types of terrain: Mostly intermediates but increasingly glades and black diamonds etc.
Height: 6 feet
Current Skis: Volant Super Karve 185's, 63ish? underfoot
Thanks in advance!
