Hey Bears! This is the time to start thinking seriously about joining the New England Gathering. The best skiing of the year is yet to come in our neck of the woods, and if you haven't yet bothered to make the drive all the way up to interior western Maine for the amazing terrain at Saddleback and Sugarloaf, this is your excuse / opportunity. This is some of the best skiing in the northeast, and March is the best time to enjoy it.
With a decent base in place and nothing but cold weather in the extended forecast, the skiing is shaping up to be good.I spent most of last week at Saddleback and the snow was plentiful on many areas of the mountain, including the woods. Yes, a big storm would push things over the edge from good to great, and this is a prime time of year in our region to get exactly that, so praise Ullr generously! I have a couple of stoke photos pending, when I get on a different PC.
Some good ticket deals can be had on Liftopia, ranging from $40 to $66 per day, so we are not talking Vail prices here.
Lodging is not a big hurdle, despite the fact that we don't have a turn-key package put together for anyone, and haven't finalized Saddleback digs yet. For example, KevinF and I are splitting an affordable suite near the Loaf.
So what we DON'T have yet is enough cowbell. I'm looking for more enthusiasm and participation from relative locals (e.g., Bears from the MA - NH - ME area who can just decide to do this). I'm thinking of people like @deliberate1, @Muleski, and any others who might want to join our little posse, comment on food and lodging opportunities, and maybe even show us some secrets at the Loaf. So this is my plea to anyone who knows who the likely candidates are to tap them on the shoulder and send 'em this way. With this in mind, please post on The Roll Call Thread if you plan to attend any of the days. In general, please visit the Groups area for the gathering or PM @KevinF or @qcanoe with comments / questions.
