What do I need, and where to get it for racing? [Michigan, school ski team]

I've recently been informed my school has a ski team for slalom and GS, but I don't really have the stuff to join. Skiing is fun of course, so it's still going to used plenty in and out of season. What I need to know is what I really need to do it safely and relatively decently, and where to get it. There's only 1 or 2 shops that I know of near me (That is, center of Michigan), so I'm fairly certain most equipment is gonna come from online. I'm also not looking to break the bank, so everything will probably come used.

Helmet

Face guard

Face Mask

Goggles

Gloves (With the knuckly parts)

Shin Guards

Boots

Slalom skis somewhere between 150-160 (I'm not a super pro at skiing, nor do I have the capital to invest in an extra pair of skis for GS. My friend just told me to get a pair of SL skis to use for both)

Racing poles

Welcome to EpicSki!  Going to move to the Gear section so you are more likely to get useful suggestions.

Take a look at the EpicSki articles (Articles on menu bar next to Unofficial Guides) about buying gear, in particular buying boots.

Have you talked to the coach yet? He or she would be the place to start. First to find out if there is even space on the team, second, what equipment you will need and third, suggestions for where to get it.  You might find out that the team has a relationship with a local shop and is able to get deals on equipment. At the high school level, especially as a new racer, you may not need shin guards/forearm guards, a chin guard or pole guards. Good luck
