The McConkey family and Alta

Thread Starter

During the recent Utah gathering, I stayed at the Gold Miner's Daughter, and they have their walls covered with cool old pictures of some of the Alta pioneers.

Two people who showed up a lot were Jim McConkey and Jim Shane, sometimes in the same photograph, so they obviously knew each other.

A little research seems to indicate that Jim McConkey is Shane McConkey's father?  Was Shane McConkey named for Jim Shane, or is that just a coincidence?

Did the Two Jims work for Alta during the early days or were they just two of the best skiers of their time who happened to ski at Alta?

Yes Jim McConkey is Shane's dad.

Jim McConkey was the ski school director at Tod Mtn. (now called Sun Peaks) in the late 1960s prior to moving to Whistler where AFAIK Shane was born and grew up.
