Lenses for Smith Goggles good for low/flat light?

Thread Starter

Does anybody have experience with these three Smith lenses. They all seem to be appropriate for lower light.  But, do you have any experience/opinion for differences between them?  If they are better for certain types of conditions, etc.  Smith now seems to be pushing the Blue Sensor Mirror, at least that is the one that comes standard with the IO/X when you buy the goggles, for example.  But, i am getting a type of blue visual streaking across my visual field that i do not like, so was considering getting a different lens.  So, wondering about opinions.

Thanks! Tom.

Have the blue; love it.
Have the red; like it, but not quite as much as blue.
Never tried gold.
YMMV

I have the blue sensor and it works better than anything I've ever tried.  The red sensor doesn't transmit as much light so in cloudy flat light conditions you won't be able to see as well.  The blue and gold sensor both transmit more light.

All three transmit too much light for a bright sunny day.  For those days you want something that only transmits maybe 35%.

Looks like we're up to 3 threads on the subject on the first page of the forum.

And yes--when you get water droplets on the blue sensor lens the drops look blue.

If you want to try something different REI has this on sale. Haven't used either of these lenses myself.

Blue sensor for life.

Been using it for close to 10 years now, and use it almost every day at Whistler. Only break out the darker lenses later in March/April for sunny days/touring.
