Mx88 or 88xti for my 1 ski quiver?

I'm 35 a level 8 skier who mostly skis in michigan. I'm 6' 185lbs and I'm looking for 1 ski to do basically everything. I understand there is not 1 perfect ski but it seems these 2 are very close to what I want. I ski mostly on piste due to geographic limitations apart from the 1 trip per yr west or east. I have it narrowed down to these 2 and have been eying a few pairs in the classified. Having never skied either I'm just looking for general recommendations.
Thks

I skied the MX88 at the SIA show at Copper Mountain earlier this month. I about peed my pants with excitement over the performance of this ski. It was smooth, damp, fast, quick edge-to-edge, plenty of energy. Simply a fantastically enjoyable ride.

Tough call... I'd suggest it shouldn't come down to the ski per se but to your style and preferences as both skis are fantastic and neither is a "compromise". At comparable lengths - meaning at 178 I'd give a slight nod to the 88xti in bumps/tight spots/ trees and the mx88 on groomers. At the longer length 186 88xti and 188 mx88 - the mx is more powerful, more GS feeling. The 88xti again is more versatile.... Shorter turn radius and a bit easier in tight spots. Both are damp, both weigh about the same, both are quick edge to edge, both just awesome. I'd buy for what you ski 90% of the time and rent a wider ski when your back west if you need. I'm out west, and have owned both skis. FWiW, I settled on the 186 88xti - all the power but with more versatility... Good luck.

Michigan and little off piste skiing?

Something is a 74mm to 84mm waist and the 176cm length should work well for your height/weight.  Anything wider than that and you are working harder or giving up groomer grip.  I'd worry less about pow performance out west and worry mostly about where you ski the most.  One can always rent wider boards when they travel.

I hope you enjoy them as much as I do my pair.  Really a very good firm snow ski.
