Crazy guy base jumps from Whistler Gondola - Page 3

So kind of a necro post but still noticing some of you fools actually wanting someone to get 10 years in prison for this shocked me. 10 years in prison for a crime that didnt hurt anyone! are you fools serious? We live in a prison happy society, at least I do in America and I am tired oh so tired of seeing non-violent people convicted of crimes getting their lives ruined by our "Justice" system. Most of the posters on this thread seem overboard by any standards....these kids messed up but to take their life away is ridiculous. Restitution and parole but not prison, I cannot really understand how ridiculous you need to be to think these kids should go to prison for a good portion of their lives.

Thanks for your inflammatory opinion.

If they're in prison, maybe they won't go on to try base jumping in Glacier.

Would you please quote one or two of these posts?  I became interested and scanned the entire thread without being able to find anyone proposing that they be put in jail for 10 years.

I second this. Both of them should go to jail for that bs.

The video made it look like they had jammed something in the gondola cabin doors to prevent them from ever closing all the way?

I hope they get a very big fine and some time in jail to think about their idiocy.

Agreed.

Yes, I read those.  Not one of them said they wanted them to go to prison for 10 years.  They just said that they should go to jail, and that could mean even 24 hours.  There is a big difference.  The 10 years thing is the maximum sentence for the charge and nobody said they wanted them to go to jail for that amount of time.  That was the original complaint.  If I'm wrong, quote the post.

My quote is a little out of context in the sense that is was delivered sarcastically. I was actually saying that they DON'T need jail time.

In this case, I agree with iceage's message, but not his tone or delivery.

Thanks for reviving this thread and reminding me to google for a follow up to this case.  Turns out the chick's life has pretty much been ruined by this not even considering the court stuff.  And the guy who made the jump, "yet to be apprehended."  LMAO.

Wow, it would have been easier to spend three months in lockup before the internet came along. Now if you Google her name twenty years from now, you'll still find that. Like being put in the stocks in the town square.

She will forever be known as Gondola Girl.

Yeah, I agree.  Some people called for jail time, but I didn't see anyone suggesting the maximum.  As you said "up to" means anything from a fine only to the maximum...10 years in this case.  I'll throw my own opinion out there for flaming.  Given the totality of the circumstances as I've read them, I would suggest something along the lines of 3 years probation with the first 180 days consisting of jail time (to include time already served), a token fine, and partial restitution.

The "apology" letter her lawyer wrote for her reads as 10% apology and 90% "woe is me."

The reason they are prosecuting the girl so hard is because she at first did not cooperate with the authorities to capture the jumper himself and kept saying that she didn't know him, had just met him on the gondola etc....This allowed the guy to get away, which leaves her to face the brunt of the legal action.

I do think WB will need to set an example, this got way to much press, before you know it every idiot is trying to get his/her go pro moment of fame by doings some stupid gondola /lift tower adventure. Lets face it , this town has more then its fair share of young peops that easily get "carried away in the moment".

I don't care to see her in jail for 10 years, but I sure hope she does get slapped with a LOT OF COMMUNITY SERVICE....

Where's the web page for her defense fund?
