I don't think anyone really gives a damn about the actual jump; it's the willful damage to another's property, damage they clearly didn't care about.
Look at this way; if someone broke into the rental center at Whistler and stole $10,000-$15,000 worth of skis, what would the reaction be? The loss is the same.
Last year, someone was slicing up the padded seats at my resort for kicks and did $5,000 in damage. Virtually everyone in town wanted the ne'er-do-well caught and strung up in the town square! This dude inflicts 2-3 times that loss, and it's cool because he got an awesome video out of it???
That said, I agree that the notion that it will drive up ticket prices is silly...and the resulting video was cool. Selfishly tearing up private property for one's own amusement is not.
