What is your typical game plan?
My first order of business on a powder day is usually to get into Waterfall Gate 3 to Waterfall Gully and 52* trees. This area is a series of narrow chutes (narrower than a ski length) that have an ugly tendency to trap snowboarders into descending on the heel and scraping them to hardpack, at which point the only way to ski these is point and pray that your chute doesn't pop out above one of the cliffs- not a lot of speed regulation can happen once the snow is gone.
So anyways, a typical start of a powder day is to ride Treasure. If the visibility is good, I'll do the quick skate out into Glory Hole Bowl and ski down into Waterfall. If visibility sucks, I'll hit the trees around Scat or do the quick drop down Snuffys Hollow.
After that, I typically take Alberta up and start harvesting the Numbered Chutes. On a typical day I will lay first tracks into about three of them (numbered chutes are 11 slide paths marked by a red diamond hanging from the trees) and generally ski untracked lines in that area through the day, moving around depending on what has been skied. In general each run I traverse a bit further over than before.
That usually takes up the morning, and often I will ski back to the base for lunch.
After lunch, to get back to Alberta I will typically take stuff like Sunshine and Little Moka at the far edge of Waterfall, or drop in on the Jaybird side. If I don't see too many tracks, Escape, Solarium and stuff skiers left of Big Drop can also be on the menu.
Afternoons on a clear day I will usually take a hike or two. Getting to the top of the Knife Ridge staircase is about a 5 minute hike, then traverse out and find an untracked line. There is always an untracked line. Always. I drop into Dog Chutes most often, although Knife Ridge Chutes right now have great coverage and are on my list. I find Horseshoe Bowl a bit underwhelming for the effort involved in getting there. If that cat is running, it makes it a lot easier, but that also means it is more tracked. However, if the cat is running, you can Grab onto the rope behind it and peel off on the way up to get into untracked trees, or you can hike up over the top into Sleeping Beauty and Voodoo.
