Well, I understand it. They are trying to figure out what the appeal is. If skiing deep powder is just like skiing on a groomer, but more difficult, then why bother? Same with steeps. You don't know what you don't know, but that doesn't mean you shouldn't try to figure out why you might want to know. Some people instinctively get why powder would be fun, but not everyone. Same with steeps.
I think there might be something in here about whether you want to do something because of the challenge vs because of the sensations, or both, or whatever, but that's too much for now.
